Berkshire Wedding Venues – The Best Places for a Fireworks Finale

If you're looking for a Berkshire wedding venue that welcomes fireworks, you're in the right hands. Sonning Fireworks is named after Sonning-on-Thames, the Berkshire village where the company began, and we've been firing wedding displays across the county for more than 20 years. From riverside settings on the Thames to grand parkland estates, these are some of our favourite places to end a wedding with a bang.

The Great House at Sonning

Right on the Thames in our home village, The Great House is a venue we know inside out — we've fired many displays here over the years. The riverside setting is made for fireworks: bursts reflecting off the water make even a compact display feel twice the size, and the lawns give guests a perfect view.

Monkey Island Estate, Bray

A luxury hotel on its own island in the Thames at Bray, and one of the most atmospheric places we've worked. Water on every side means beautiful reflections and a naturally contained setting, with the display framed by the river.

The Inn On The Green, Cookham Dean

A boutique venue tucked into the woodland above the Thames — intimate, characterful, and a venue we've returned to many times. Smaller grounds suit a tightly choreographed, fast-paced show, which is exactly the kind of display we love designing.

Bearwood College, Wokingham

A spectacular Victorian mansion set in acres of parkland with its own lake. The space here lets us fire a full-scale show with big aerial work and a proper finale — and the lake adds that magical mirror effect.

Easthampstead Park, Wokingham

A grand mansion house in 60 acres of Berkshire parkland. Generous safety distances mean the full range of effects is available, from ground-level colour to high-altitude shells.

Donnington Grove, Newbury

A Gothic country house and estate on the edge of Newbury, where the parkland setting gives a display room to breathe. A lovely choice if your guests are mostly from west Berkshire.

Northcote House, Ascot

An elegant mansion near Ascot, with formal gardens and lawns that frame a display beautifully.

Berkshire's golf clubs and riverside gems

Some of our favourite Berkshire firing sites are less obvious: golf courses like Winter Hill at Maidenhead, Castle Royal and Sonning Golf Club offer wide-open space and clear sight lines, while The French Horn at Sonning proves a riverside restaurant wedding can end in spectacular style too.

What makes a great Berkshire fireworks venue?

Two things: water and space. The Thames runs past many of the county's best venues, and firing beside water doubles the visual impact of every burst. Parkland estates add the safety distances that let us use the biggest effects. Whatever the setting, we visit the site, agree the firing area with the venue team, and design the show around the space — whether that's a traditional high-impact display or a full pyromusical choreographed to your first dance.

Firework Display FAQs

How much space is needed?+

The absolute minimum distance we require is 50m from spectators, roads, car parks and public byways. This distance increases with the size of the show as we start using larger fireworks. We complete a full risk assessment to ensure only the appropriate fireworks are used for the distance available.

What's the benefit of computer-fired fireworks?+

All our shows are fired by computer and use the full width available onsite, so rather than the traditional single firing location we fire from three or more locations. This means we use the same number of fireworks but fire them in multiples rather than one at a time, making the show far more impressive. This is only possible because we fire 100% of our shows using our computer firing system.

Are firework displays affected by the weather?+

In most circumstances no, however wind direction is critical. A strong wind blowing away from the crowd toward a suitable fallout area is acceptable; a wind blowing toward the crowd can be unacceptable.

Do you clear up afterwards?+

Yes. We endeavour to clear up as much as possible, though there may be a few small bits of cardboard left which soon disappear when the site is mowed. Venues come back to us as their preferred supplier again and again because we respect their venue and their rules.

Can the firework display be a surprise?+

Most of the time we can set up a display without your guests knowing, however with some sites and some sizes of display this is not always possible.

Can we start the firework display ourselves?+

Most certainly. We have a wireless firing system that the bride and groom (or host) can use to start the display safely from back with the crowd.

Can fireworks be choreographed to music?+

Yes! We specialise in fireworks to music, otherwise known as pyromusicals — stunning displays choreographed precisely to your chosen music. Whether you want a romantic first-dance moment or a dramatic finale, a carefully designed musical firework display brings your event to life with rhythm, emotion and spectacle.

How long does a wedding fireworks display last?+

Most wedding fireworks displays last between 4 and 8 minutes, depending on your budget and style. We recommend a high-impact display that leaves a big impression without dragging on. For larger budgets and Bonfire Night shows, displays can last 15–25 minutes.
